Day 9 of the 24 Day Prophecy Study
Notes compiled by Steve McAtee and Marty Zide
The Marriage Supper is the celebration and feast that takes place after the marriage between the Lord Jesus and His bride, the church. Questions revolve around the timing and the place of the Marriage Supper. Will it take place in heaven while the tribulation period is going on, or will it take place on earth while the millennium is going on? Although this is not a major thing to argue over, it does affect how one views certain details about the event.
A. It’s A Blessing to Participate in it
Rev. 19:9 - Then he said to me, write, blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said to me, these are true words of God.
This verse speaks of an event that is still future. The occasion anticipates guests that are invited to the Supper. The church is the bride, not the invited guest. The guests will be made up of Old Testament saints, the saved remnant of Israel, and martyred tribulation saints along with the believers who survived the tribulation. Since they have not been resurrected or received their glorified bodies until the second coming of Christ, it stands to reason that the Marriage Supper does not take place until they have been glorified. That would put the Supper celebration at the beginning of the Millennium.
B. Biblical Passages for the Marriage Supper
Here are some possible verses that speak of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
Matt. 8:11 - I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
The context of this passage is that of the healing of the centurion's servant. Jesus was amazed by the faith of this Gentile man. After Jesus made that statement about his faith, it was then that He said what is stated in Matt. 8:11. He said that many Gentiles will be reclining at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This is most likely referring to the Marriage Supper and will take place in the Millennium.
Some other passages to consider that describes this event are: Matt. 22:1-14, Luke 14:16-24, and Matt. 25:1-13.
